Light through a Havana window
Above the doors of old colonial houses in Havana, half-moon windows of coloured glass called mediopuntos filter the tropical sun. Red, blue, yellow and green, they scatter patches of coloured light across white walls and tiled floors, so every room glows like a kaleidoscope as the day moves on.
On 3 May 2016 Karl Lagerfeld brought Chanel to Cuba, the first great European house ever to show there. The Paseo del Prado became a runway under the trees, vintage American convertibles carried the guests and live Cuban music filled the night. "Cuba is like nothing else in the world," he said. "The colours, the cars, there's something very touching about it." His collection was an idea of a chic and modern Cuba, full of Panama hats, Coco Cuba T-shirts and tweeds woven in the island's colours.
This jacket is one of those tweeds: a white Lesage weave scattered with turquoise, sky blue, red, pink, burgundy and ochre, like the light of a mediopunto falling across a Havana room.
