An old leather jacket from the ranch
On a Texas ranch, the best jacket is the oldest one: its leather cracked by the sun and the wind, its colour faded to a dusty grey, its lining soft from years of wear. It carries the story of every long ride across the plains.
On 10 December 2013 Karl Lagerfeld brought the Métiers d'Art collection to Dallas, to Centennial Hall at Fair Park, turned into a Texas barn with a hay-strewn runway. "I love Texas," he said. "I love Texans." His cowboys were "not typical cowboys, they are transposed, very sophisticated" — and so was this jacket, which only pretends to be old leather.
In truth it is pure double-faced cashmere: coated on the outside to look like cracked, dusty leather, and striped in beige, olive and pink on the inside. It walked the runway and starred in the campaign on Caroline de Maigret, the very image of Parisian chic.
Cowboy leather, rewritten in cashmere.
