Paris–Salzburg was at its best when Lagerfeld took something unmistakably Austrian and stripped away the folklore. Edelweiss, Tyrolean dress, military tailoring and alpine craft were all pushed through Chanel until they became sharper, lighter, and much less obedient

• Cut from exceptionally soft deep black suede, with a matte, velvety finish

• The surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, giving the trousers a rich, almost ink-black depth

• The lower legs are decorated with hand-appliquéd embroidered Edelweiss, worked in white with yellow centres and fine green stems

• A CC logo Edelweiss star button closes the waist, tying the collection motif directly back to Chanel

• The embroidery is concentrated below the knee, allowing the upper half of the trousers to remain clean and tailored

• Inside, the trousers are finished with black silk lining, giving the suede a smooth interior and preserving the long fitted line
