CHANEL · Grey Cable-Knit Cardigan with Alpine Floral Appliqué
— Paris / Salzburg Métiers d’Art 2015 · Karl Lagerfeld
Paris–Salzburg was Lagerfeld’s exercise in making Alpine dress feel cultured rather than quaint: Tyrolean braid, loden tones, hunting references, military lines and elaborate knitwear all filtered through Chanel.
Vogue called out the collection’s Alpine sweaters and Mitteleuropean vocabulary, but the cleverness was always in the editing — enough regional character to be specific, never enough to become costume. Vogue
// Size mark 42 FR / Condition: never worn //
Crafted from a richly textured two-tone grey knit, shifting between warm stone, soft taupe and cooler marl grey
The grey palette is deliberately quiet, allowing the embroidery and trim to carry the colour
The piece is decorated with Alpine flower and berry appliqués, bringing the Salzburg reference directly into the surface
CC logo deer buttons run down the front — a collection-specific motif tied to the hunting and Tyrolean vocabulary of Paris–Salzburg
Cranberry-red and deep navy accents punctuate the cuffs and hem, introducing controlled colour against the neutral knit
The high collar adds a more structured, almost Janker-like note to an otherwise relaxed cardigan shape
